LEV 19:9-10 Reaping of Harvest Law

Law

• When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, 

• Neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 

• You shall not glean your vineyard, 

• Neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the foreigner.

Biblical Example

• This is a biblical example of the Reaping of Harvest Law being followed. 

Then Boaz said to his servant who was set over the reapers, “Whose young lady is this?”

6 The servant who was set over the reapers answered, “It is the Moabite lady who came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.’ So she came, and has continued even from the morning until now, except that she rested a little in the house.”

This biblical example is referring to Ruth and Boaz. During this time, Ruth had recently become a widow. She was childless and facing hardship along with her mother-in-law, Naomi. Upon moving to Bethlehem with her mother-in-law, Ruth went out to gather leftovers from fields after reapers completed their harvest. Boaz was a kinsman to the woman's deceased husband. He blessed the woman after seeing her in his field and later married her. They are the great-grandparents of King David on his father's side.
