EX 12:3-13 The First Passover Instructed / Passover Law

Scripture

Speak to all the congregation of Israel saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month, they shall take to every man a lamb, according to their father's house, a lamb for a household. 4 If the household is too little for a lamb, then he and his neighbor next to his house shall take a lamb, according to, the number of souls to feed. You shall take your count of lambs, according to, what everyone can eat. 5 The lamb shall be, without defect, a male, a year old. You shall take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 You shall keep it, until the fourteenth day of this month, then kill it at evening. 7 You shall take some of the blood and put it on the two door posts and the lintel of the house in which you eat the lamb. 8 You shall eat the lamb on that night, roasted with fire, with unleavened bread. You shall eat it with bitter herbs. 9 Do not eat it raw or boiled with water. Eat it roasted with fire, with its head, its legs and its inner parts. 10 You shall let none of it remain until the morning. All that remains, you shall burn with fire. 11 This is how you shall eat it: with your belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. You shall eat it in haste. It is My Passover. 12 For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night and strike all of the firstborn, both man and animal. And I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt. I am Yahweh. 13 The lamb's blood shall be a token on the house. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt."

Biblical Example

  • So all the service of Yahweh was prepared the same day, to keep the Passover, and to offer burnt offerings on Yahweh’s altar, according to the commandment of King Josiah. 17 The children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days. 18 There was no Passover like that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet, nor did any of the kings of Israel keep such a Passover as Josiah kept—with the priests, the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 35:16-18 (WEB)

This biblical example is referring to the Passover that occurred in King Josiah's eighteenth year as king of Israel. King Josiah became king of Israel at eight years old; after the assassination of his father King Amos, a man who did evil in the eyes of YHWH.

Present Day Example

This is a present day example of the Passover Law not being followed.

  • In 2021, the Passover occurred on March 26th.

An Israelite that did not properly partake in The Passover disobeyed this law.
